- Sauté onions and bay leaf in butter and vegetable oil on medium heat until soft. If you prefer a sweeter taste, sauté until the onions are lightly browned. Add mushrooms and sauté until mushrooms are cooked. If you have any pan juices from cooking a roast/frying a piece of meat, you can add it here..
